Then in to Vermont

Updated: Feb 19, 2020

July 21 Day 50 75 miles

Today we rode into New England! That is, Vermont, to be more specific. We rode over the Hudson, then up and out of the Hudson Valley, into Troy, NY. Another 25 miles down the road, we crossed into the beautiful state of Vermont. I could immediately see, hear, and even smell the familiar surroundings of home territory. The bubbling streams over polished granite boulders, and aroma of the dank fir covered slopes, welcomed me home.

Route 9 is a lovely country road busy with tourists, especially on a Sunday. There are several cute towns along the way, dramatic (and challenging) hills, with beautiful views from the top. We ended the day in the fun little town of Brattleboro.

The day started with a ride over the Hudson River, under the highway, and then through the town of Troy, NY.

We started seeing Vermont kitsch before we even reached Vermont.

The crossing into Vermont at about 30 miles. This is our 12th state.

We pass through Bennington first, a pretty, artsy town.

Our next stop is Wilmington. This little place delivered a wonderful lunch. Did I mention kitsch?

From here on, I felt like I was in familiar territory. I love these mountain views.

We stop for photos when we finally get to the top of the pass. It has been a hot and humid day, but up here there is a breeze.

We finish the day in Brattleboro. It is a great little town with a laid back vibe. The sign in the last photo is for a circus school. Who knew?
