July 17 Day 46 90 miles

Rainy weather was expected, and arrived. We rode in a steady rain most of a long day punctuated by flat tires. There was a combination of wet weather and widespread flecks of slate lining the road, that produced tiny penetrating shards. We were removing these from tires all day, often with the help of tweezers. When we didn't find them in time, they resulted in a flat tires. We set a record for America by Bicycle. Our trio alone had 8 flats and the whole group had 30. They are out of replacement tubes!

There were few chances for photos due to the rain, but there are a few of us stopped for tire repairs. You get the idea.

We leave Buffalo just before the rain starts.

Michael gifts Sean a shower cap from the hotel, which he wears with pride.

Repairs are the theme of the day.

We get in the habit of checking ours tires frequently for penetrating shards.

Given the weather, we opt for an indoor lunch with Michael, Jim , Zach, and Doug.

On a couple of occasions, we were actually stopped for 2 flat tires at once!
