June 17 Day 16 89 miles

We left Green River early enough to cover the 89 miles to Fruita. It was partly overcast from the start, and threatened to rain during much of the day. In the end, it held off during the hours that we were on the road. The day started with a gradual 25 mile uphill, and continued gentle up hills and down hills all day.

We road past more of the cliff lined hills along the way, and were able to catch a glimpse of the Rocky Mts that are in our future.

We finally saw the Colorado River as we rode into Fruita, CO.

Fruita is a small town, dominated by an arid, rocky, striated hillside.

We now have several days of riding through Colorado.

We say goodby to Green River.

The cliff lined hills we encounter are typical of much of this area.

With the threat of rain, we have the SAG stop under a bridge.

We were trying to out run the rain all day.

After crossing the state line into Colorado, we were able to see the Colorado River as we entered Fruita.

Here we will bed down for the night.

I love that you're staying in these tiny little towns along the way that otherwise you would never bother to stop in at. One more part of the cool view of America that you are getting to see.

Nice pictures. I see some trees so you must be getting close to the Colorado River. We biked for a week in Montana along the Yellowstone River, not so hilly. Good luck with the rain forecast.
