June 10 Day 9 74 miles

It feels like we are getting into a routine; Bike...Eat...Bike...Eat...Bike...Wash...Rinse...Repeat.

We finally got a break from the wind. It was a beautiful cool and sunny day. We were on Rt 80 much of the day, except for a short ride through Carlin Canyon to detour around a highway tunnel. The first and last parts of the trip were flat, and the middle had a lot of climbing.

Bicycle tires had been a bigger problem than I would have imagined. There were 3 flats today, including Jim and Micheal as they followed me down the mountain!

Elko is a typical sprawling western town, and we feel welcome here. The Brits were amused by their first experience with DQ.

Well, it looks the same.

We were treated to a performance of swallows while passing under Rt 80.

By mid-day we reached the climb of the day, stretching 10 miles to the top of Emigrant Pass, then down the other side.

Our day sheet showing the climb in there middle of the day.

Carlin Canyon was a welcome break from Rt 80.

A charming Elko at the end of the day

Dinner at the Coffee Mug, followed by DQ. What could be better?

Tooling through places like Lovelock, Winnemucca, Battle Mountain...how cool is all that? This all sounds like a fabulous experience, Jamie!
